I am thinking about adding a red-dot to my carry or range pistol. Do they actually speed up sight acquisition and improve accuracy, or are irons sufficient? Please share experiences with different micro-dots, mounts, and whether you'd recommend them for EDC.

Yeah, I threw a red dot on my carry pistol, and it makes getting a good sight picture so much faster, and my groups got a lot tighter at distance. Once you go red dot, you won't ever go back

Yes, micro red dots speed sight acquisition and improve accuracy, especially under stress. I've used Trijicon RMR and Holosun on slide cut mounts, they are great for EDC if you regularly train with them

A lot of people like a red dot, but I am still an iron sight guy. I have astigmatism and I don't want to deal with the maintenance that an RDS requires- mainly cleaning and batteries.

I do have a red dot on one of my pistols.

Acquiring the dot when drawing and aiming takes some practice, but target transitions are much faster.

That's great to hear, which red dot did you go with, and did you need to change your holster?

How long did it take you to get comfortable with the dot?

For someone new to red dots, would you suggest starting at the range before committing to EDC?
