I have been hunting in some seriously dusty areas lately and my rifle is basically a dirt magnet. How often are you guys cleaning in these conditions? I'm worried about over-lubing and making it worse but also don't want grit wrecking my action
In dusty areas, you gotta go light on the lube. Use a dry film or a very thin synthetic oil on the action, then wipe everything almost dry, otherwise that wet oil just turns into grit-paste and kills your rifle
I've been there, that gritty feeling when you cycle the action is the worst! @Aim_Shoot is right, less is more with lube. Focus your efforts on just the bolt and bore and after every single dusty day, just a quick wipe-down and run a patch through the barrel. A heavy cleaning can wait, but get the worst of that dust off nightly
