Some budget gear genuinely is 90% as good for 50% of the price. Other budget gear is garbage disguised as deals. The trick is knowing which is which, and that takes research and experience. Not everyone needs top-tier everything, but know what you're compromising on when you go budget

I tend to shop the used market. That will usually yield a solid product with a good discount in the 20-30% range which helps to keep things within a budget.
