simple fishing setup for a first timer

I've been thinking about taking my 5-year-old fishing and honestly, I have no idea where to start. I saw some kid-sized rods at a store and I'm curious if those would be good for us. I didn't do much fishing growing up, but I want to make some fun memories with my kid. What kind of setup do you all recommend for a beginner outing? Just looking for something easy and not too complicated.
