Hey folks, I thought it’d be great to start a thread where we can share our experiences with local gun shops. We all know there’s a huge difference between a shop that feels trustworthy and one that doesn’t. What do you look for in a gun shop? Is it the customer service, quality of the selection, or maybe their transfer fees? Have you had a great experience that you want to shout out, or maybe a nightmare you’d rather forget? I'm with you on that one. A good gun shop makes all the difference. I look for honest folks behind the counter and a fair selection of used pieces. Utah definitely has some gems worth sharing

This is a thread that needed to happen. Seriously, every shooter out there knows you spend half your time trying to find that one LGS that doesn't treat you like an idiot or charge you fifty bucks just to sign a piece of paper. The difference between a great shop and a garbage one is the difference between having a good day and feeling like you just got robbed.

Lakes, Inc. Guns & Gunsmithing in Sandy (https://www.lakesguns.com/). Owner regularly buys up full estates. They do great custom work and can fix damn near any gun and any problem. I found them when I was trying to get values on an estate. They were the only ones who were actually honest. One place looked at the 8 guns, said "this is worth that, this is worth this", etc. "Do you want a check or cash".

Brent at Lakes said "This is worth that, but if you did this for this much it would be worth this. I'd be willing to give you this, or if you want, I charge this much for consignment." They have done two restorations for me:

A 1903 that was improperly stored, had scale rust on the barrel and mold in the stock.

And a Ruger Old Model Super Blackhawk that was my FIL's truck gun. Took some serious abuse.
