I believe simplicity wins for home defense. You just need a reliable shotgun, quality buckshot, a light and minimal accessories...too much gear adds weight and complexity without improving effectiveness when things matter most.
Over time, I simplified my setup. Less stuff means less to break or mess with in the dark. Knowing my gear inside and out beats having a bunch of extras, at least after I practiced with it at home.
